Renault goes electric with all-new Megane E-Tech

Innovatia x Renault

Renault has entered into the realm of electric vehicles in Australia, and is driving the future of purposeful innovation in the industry.

Known in the automotive industry for their pioneering, innovative spirit, Renault is no stranger when it comes to pushing boundaries.

Most recently, the manufacturing powerhouse has shown off its latest technologies with the launch of the all-new 100% electric Megane E-Tech.

One specific mechanism implemented in this new model, an innovative breakthrough, allows the car to automatically control the temperature of the engine and battery independently for increased efficiency.

Megane E-Tech can drive within a WLTP range of up to 454 kilometres, making this advanced model highly alluring to drivers entering the electric vehicle market for the first time and seeking the confidence needed to go the distance.

Renault’s next-generation driving experience begins before you even get in the car. When you approach with the smart key on your person, the flush door handles will automatically extend. Then, once inside, you’re met with an unprecedented level of silence. Thanks to a unique soft cushioning layer between the vehicle and its battery, Megane E-Tech’s cabin is like a cocoon, bringing an extraordinary level of acoustic comfort.

Megane E-Tech looks good, too. Featuring Renault’s signature full LED front light, 3D iridescent rear lighting signature, body-coloured bumper accents, and contrasting black or grey roof, depending on the model chosen, the new model boasts a completely original, contemporary design. The new electric model is also the first in the manufacturer’s fleet to feature Renault’s new logo.

The design may have caught buyers’ eyes, but it’s what’s under the hood that makes this model a smart investment. Megane E-Tech is fitted with a 60kWh ultra-slim battery, optimising weight distribution and making it one of the lightest electric vehicles in its category.

Megane E-Tech was designed from the ground up with efficiency in mind, but it doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to delivering a dynamic driving experience. With a drag coefficient of 0.29 – the lowest in the Renault line-up – Megane E-Tech’s dynamic curves enhance efficiency, ensuring maximum power output with minimal energy consumption. The power of the battery coupled with the vehicle’s weight distribution make the car a delight to drive.

As to the public’s reception, the numbers speak for themselves. In the first half of 2023, 23,000 examples of Megane E-Tech were sold in Europe, making it the best-selling electric vehicle in its category in France.

There is another side to Renault’s pioneering innovations, as the brand looks to minimise the environmental impact of producing electric vehicles across the entire supply chain, including post-ownership.

With a strong environmental strategy and a view to preserving ecosystems for future generations, Renault has been applying circular economy principles for more than 10 years. Nowhere is this more evident than in the production of Megane E-Tech, with each vehicle containing no less than 28 kilograms of recycled plastics.

If that wasn’t enough, Megane E-Tech takes Renault’s environmental ambitions even further: the vehicle is more than 90 % recyclable at end of life – including the battery.

Locally, Renault has partnered with Envirostream to recycle its EV batteries, which will be broken down and reused in the production of new Li-ion batteries.

Renault’s comprehensive approach to sustainable design makes the French marque an industry leader in the world of electric vehicles and other mobility innovations, and they are committed to leading innovations in electric, connected, and autonomous mobility into the future.

With such forward-thinking products as Megane E-Tech already on the market, it’s safe to say the future is arriving faster than ever.
